The science of Emotional Intelligence

Have you ever wondered why people with superior intellectual abilities seem to struggle and even fail in life, in their careers, or in business?


In order to find answers to these questions, Dr. Reuven Bar-On, in the 1980s, developed an instrument to assess social and emotional functioning that tested factors unrelated to IQ.


This instrument became known as the EQ-i (Emotional Quotient Inventory).


What Dr. Bar-On has succeeded in identifying is a set of competencies that could explain many aspects of human behavior and success that IQ alone simply can’t explain.


The EQ-i 2.0, a Level B Psychometric assessment based on the research of Dr. Reuven Bar-On, was published by Multi-Health Systems Inc, or MHS.


And it is one of the most reliable, scientifically valid and highly researched EQ assessment tools (see PDF).


Also, because it is a Level B Psychometric, it means that the EQ-i 2.0 can only be given by a certified administrator.

The EQ-i 2.0 instrument I work with incorporates over 20 years of hard data, research and developmen.


The EQ-i is a psychometrically sound, validated assessment instrument that is applied to EI assessment and development at individual, team, and organizational levels.


The EQ-i is one of the most respected and recognized EI assessment instruments worldwide and it will provide us with a robust and intuitive framework to address questions related to leadership.


The EQ-i 2.0 Assessment provides you information about your EQ competencies so you can best decide your next steps to becoming a more effective leader, business partner and a stronger team player.


The 15 competencies, taken together, provide a total EQ. A one-to-one debrief is always included with an EQ-i 2.0 assessment, as results need to be interpreted by a certified administrator.


The 15 competencies in the EQ-i 2.0 act as building blocks for further developing skills and competencies.


In addition to the 15 competencies and the five composites, the EQ-i 2.0 report provides a total EQ inventory and a well-being indicator, providing information about the big, whole picture of a person’s life.
